In his first visit to the capital after taking over as the first chief minister of Telangana, K Chandrasekhara Rao on Saturday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demanded that his newly formed state be treated on a par with Andhra Pradesh for the purpose of giving them special category status.
He also wanted tax incentives to Telangana on the lines of the ones extended to the hill states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Rao pointed out that it was a commitment under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.
Rao also met President Pranab Mukherjee during his visit to the capital.
Rao is learnt to have highlighted 14 issues for the development of Telangana and expediting implementation of the assurances made in the AP Reorganisation Act. However, the ordinance on transfer of seven mandals in Khammam district to Andhra Pradesh for executing the Polavaram Multi-Purpose Project, a move which was vehemently opposed by Rao, did not figure in the list released to the media after the meeting.
According to the list, the issues that Rao discussed with Modi include development of Sabarmati River Front, declaring Pranahita Chevella as a national project and roads in backward regions of Telangana and railway division at Kazipet. Rao invited Mukherjee to a partnership summit to be attended by representatives from over 160 countries.
